WEDDING NIGHT IN THE PALACE OF KING SHAHRAYAR. BY MORNING THE NEW QUEEN SHAHRAZAD IS TO BE PUT TO DEATH LIKE
A THOUSAND YOUNG BRIDES BEFORE HER.
SHE HAS THE ONE GIFT THAT CAN SAVE HER,
THE GIFT OF STORYTELLING.
With a mischievous imagination and silver tongue, Queen Shahrazad paints a dazzling array of stories and characters, summoned forth from strange and magical worlds populated by giant beasts, singing trees, devilish ghouls and crafty thieves.
Can the power of storytelling save her life?
A LONG TIME AGO, IN A FARAWAY LAND,
THERE LIVED A CLEVER YOUNG GIRL CALLED SHAHRAZAD, HER SISTER DINARZAD AND THEIR FATHER, WHO WAS CHIEF ADVISOR TO THE KING.
Our story begins when the King of their country discovers his wife has been unfaithful to him and she is quickly put to death. Driven to despair by grief, the King pledges from that day forward he will marry for one night only, and in the morning that wife too will be put to death.
Many years and many wives pass, and our clever Shahrazad has a plan. She decides to marry the King and end the curse that has fallen on so many of her countrywomen before her. That night she begins the first of her many wonderful tales... of Ali Baba and the 40 thieves' of the Little Beggar... Es-Sindibad... Abu-Hassan and his terrible wind... and many more.
But will they be enough to save Shahrazad from the executioner's block?
